Can ANYONE be a GREAT teacher

Teaching is a craft and those who are motivated can learn to do most of those things. We can't teach someone to like children (but if you don't you shouldn't be working with them), and it is hard to teach compassion and empathy to those who don't already have it. We can teach management skills and how to plan lessons, motivate students, and make learning fun. The question is not whether anyone with the basic positive attitudes toward students can learn how to teach, the question is are there enough people out there with those attitudes who are willing to invest the time to learn the skills in a profession that is disrespected, governed by people who are not masters of these skills, frequently poorly paid, and where one has no control over the tools you need to do your work - Marc Korasan Teacher / Union Rep at UFT Teacher Center USA.
