Positive Emotions

Positive emotions are important for a good relationship. Positive emotions forge strong connections with others by breaking down the wall, barriers and boundaries separating us from others.  By broadening attentions in ways that help us see ourselves as less important or distinct from others we will be able to create all kinds of relationships. The more you kindle positive emotions or feelings in a relationship the more connected and happy you feel. Sharing and spreading positive emotions to others via 'Emotional Contagion' is a perfect move in getting a good relationship amongst people. Positive emotions is complex and it happens below the level of our consciousness  Lets talk about it further in detail.

Positive emotions happens when we have the tendency to copy or synchronise our facial expression, vocalisation, postures and behavior with those around us. This action may result in us taking on other's emotional landscape. Being sensitive to the emotional environment may make us pick up emotion from others. For example , if we are spending time with someone who is not doing fine could result in us picking up the negative emotion from them but if we are spending time with someone who is happy and joyful we could pick up the positive emotions from them. Our long term behavior and mood is the result of shared negative and positive emotions. Strong negative emotions can cause people to explode with anger, filled with anxiety, shrink or be drawn inwards. Small problems begins to worsen and may cause downfall into downward spiral of negativity. Annoyance may magnify and multiply creating more problems. Focus on our problem and find what's wrong. Failing so may cause us to end up feeling hopeless, desperate and lost. Positive emotions can act as a buffer between you and stressful events in your life. It may also allow you to cope up more effectively and preserve your mental health. Positive emotions allows you to recover from stress more quickly. Positive emotions may also encourage us to make heathier decisions which in turn will contribute to good health. It is also found that positive emotions provides a buffer against depressions. Good cardiovascular condition, general health are benefits you get from positive emotions. Positive emotions that are experienced by most people are:-

  • Joy - a sense of happiness often experienced by a sudden spike of something good happening.
  • Gratitude - feeling of thankfulness
  • Serenity - a calm and peaceful feeling of acceptance of oneself.
  • Hope - feeling of optimism of a positive future.
  • Pride - sense of pleasure  in an achievement, skill and personal attribute.
  • Amusement - feeling of pleasure and enjoyment.
  • Satisfaction - a sense of pleasure and contentment from accomplishment and fulfillment.
  • Relief - is experienced when an uncertain situation turns out for the best.
  • Affection - an emotional attachment accompanied liking and sense of pleasure.
  • Cheerfulness - filling of brightness, being upbeat, happy that everything is going your way.
  • Confidence - a strong sense of self-esteem and belief in oneself.
The list is endless. These are words most often use by people describing their emotions. It captures a good deal of positive emotions we experience.
