Can ANYONE be a GREAT teacher

Teaching is a craft and those who are motivated can learn to do most of those things. We can't teach someone to like children (but if you don't you shouldn't be working with them), and it is hard to teach compassion and empathy to those who don't already have it. We can teach management skills and how to plan lessons, motivate students, and make learning fun. The question is not whether anyone with the basic positive attitudes toward students can learn how to teach, the question is are there enough people out there with those attitudes who are willing to invest the time to learn the skills in a profession that is disrespected, governed by people who are not masters of these skills, frequently poorly paid, and where one has no control over the tools you need to do your work - Marc Korasan
Teacher / Union Rep at UFT Teacher Center USA.

Teaching is an art and a calling. You need both qualities to be a great teacher. If your gifts are in other venues, be great there. Love what you do!- Cleo Lampos, Freelance writer USA

The thing is....all human beings are born to teach. All humans are born to learn. As educators, we have decided to formalize our teaching into a career, but think about all the teaching and learning that takes place from the moment we are born. Our parents are teaching us. Our older siblings are teaching us. We teach our children. What separates the "teacher" from the rest of society, is that we study the way society passes knowledge on to the next generation, formalize those techniques into a repertoire of pedagogical skills, and then pass on content. The fact is that you don't have to like children (there are trainers, higher level educators, etc. that never come in contact with a child during their teaching day).- Maureen Hogan,
Adjunct Faculty at Waubonsee, Chicago.

A teacher plays very important role in students' character building as an authorised facilitator and guide. Dedications of teacher prosper the students to learn and perform well with secure feelings.
Great teachers always work about their goals and ever groom themselves for new techniques and all the pedagogical skills. Its a difficult task but not impossible to become a great teacher with all required pations.- Zainab Qayoom, Pakistan.

After reading the three comments posted by the four members of a teachers group I very much agree with Marc Korasan and Zainab Qayoom. Indeed teaching is a very special and difficult skill to acquire. One may be very highly educated with tonnes of knowledge but he may not be able to share his knowledge with younger people (students) if he does not know how to impart the knowledge to his students the best and effective way he can. He need to have the skill of evaluating the students present knowledge and understanding of the topic that he is trying to teach. A group of students in a class do not have the same level of intelligence, thus the teacher must be able to pass on the knowledge so that all of the students are able to understand and absorb what he is teaching. Failing in doing so makes him a failure. It is not an easy task teaching a class of students with different level of intelligence. One have to use multi tasking in doing so. It is a tedious and a time consuming task. Being able to achieve the goal of getting everyone of the students to gain the knowledge given is a great achievement. Thus it takes a great teacher to do it.
