GOOD WRITING SKILLS
Let's look at a few good tips on writing skills. This is one skill that is a problem to most students. Some say writing is a talent. It is inborn. I believe it is one skill that can be taught and one is able to master it through practice. The most important factor in writing is that students need to be personally involved. The teacher must be clear on what skills he is trying to develop and need to decide on which means can help in developing the target skill set.
1. Begin sentences with subject and verbs. Expands the sentence with subordinate elements to the right of the sentence.
2. Use verbs in the simple present or past. Strong verbs creates action and saves words. Never use the passive when you can use the active.
3. Beware of adverbs. Adverbs used can spice up a verb or an adverb but at the same time it can also repeat the meaning of the verb.
4. Place strong words at the beginning of a sentence. Strong words should also be used at the beginning of a paragraph. A comma is short pause and a dot is a complete stop. The dot completes the meaning of a sentence.
5. Observe "word territory" Do not repeat a specific word unless you intend to give an effect on the word.Words and phrases may be repeated for emphasis or rhythm.
These are some of the tips available. Will be writing more on this in the next posting.
